Guy Steinhobel’s first visit to the seashore family holiday resort UNTU Palms, also known as the Jewel of the South Coast, went beyond his wildest dreams when he caught his very first Rock Cod of almost 60 cm.
“This is my very first visit to UNTU Palms and I love every minute of it. I am so excited about my catch. Usually I only feed the fish, but this time I was lucky. It was a big moment and incredibly stressful pulling it out, but I had a lot of encouragement,” says the 28-year-old from Pretoria.
He joined his parents and his uncle for a holiday at the cabanas of UNTU Palms.
When in Pretoria he likes fishing at the Hartbeespoort Dam in the North West, but no longer gets the time in between work to go as often as he used to.
“It was a great experience rock fishing at UNTU Palms because all the other guests who knows this popular rock-fishing spot gave advice and shared their experiences. I learned a lot and put the advice to the test. And Voilà!”
Guy cleaned the Rock Cod to braai half of it. It fed a family of seven adults and a child. The rest of the fish he will use to make pickled fish.
“We loved every second of our holiday. It is wonderful to be on the beachfront and yet so close to the cabana if you need to fetch something. Unfortunately, our holiday is nearing its end. I will recommend UNTU Palms to anyone and will definitely return for another visit,” says Guy.
UNTU Palms hosts one of the best surfing- and rock fishing spots on the South Coast.
UNTU Palms is blessed to have ample open space and can comply with protocol to combat the spreading of the Covid-19 pandemic.
