NTM declared a dispute with Transnet Rail Engineering in regards to Recognition. The Conciliation was held this morning at the Transnet Bargaining Council. As UTATU SARWHU and SATAWU we requested to be joined in dispute as we have an interest in terms of the Labour Relations Act. The dispute was thus with drawn by NTM as the Transnet Bargaining Council lacked jurisdiction to deal with the dispute in terms of Section 21 of the Labour Relations Act. They have however indicated that they will now refer the dispute to the CCMA.

Treasury Money Funding Challenge For Shosholoza Meyl Operations
Emanating from our discussions with the CEO, Mr Mofi, Prasa (Rail) we were informed that Treasury (Government) no longer want to feed the bill on the operations of Shosholoza Meyl. This is a slap in our face, we want to inform members to make Shosholoza Meyl viable we will have to engage with Management in the very near future on serious matters which will also impact on your Conditions of Service.
Variation Agreement (VA) Monitoring
To assist us in ensuring that the said meetings are actually taking place at the different depots/workplaces you are requested to inform UTATU SARWHU on a regular basis if the meetings are actually taking place or not. Your attention is drawn to the fact that the mentioned meetings need to take place at Infra depots on a bi-weekly basis as opposed to movement and yard depots that must meet weekly. Your closest co-operation in this regard is of paramount importance.
