TRANSNET LEAVE DISPUTE: TASK TEAM ESTABLISHED

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) and Transnet met today at the Transnet Bargaining Council to give effect to the judgement of the Labour Court in the Unions favour about forced leave over the Festive Season.

The Court ruled that the parties have to set up a task team that will deal with those employees who believe they were forced to take leave between 15 December 2015 to 3 January 2016.

UNTU and Transnet discussed the terms of reference for the task team dealing with the affected employees. The parties made several changes to a draft agreement. As soon as the changes are redrafted and the agreement is signed, members will be informed in a circular letter about the process to follow.

Affected members will need to make written representations within 30 days after the establishment of the task team, says Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU.

This comes after the Labour Court ruled that Transnet did not comply with Collective Agreements when the state-owned enterprise forced some of its employees to take leave due to a shutdown of operations during the Festive Season.
