FEEDBACK: MEETING BETWEEN LABOUR AND MANAGEMENT HELD VIA MICROSOFT TEAM ON 4/5/2020 FROM 14H00-15H40: UNTU AND TRANSNET CONSULTATION WAY FORWARD: LEVEL 4

FEEDBACK: MEETING BETWEEN LABOUR AND MANAGEMENT HELD VIA MICROSOFT TEAM ON 4/5/2020 FROM 14H00-15H40: UNTU AND TRANSNET CONSULTATION WAY FORWARD: LEVEL 4

The Leadership of the United National Transport Union (UNTU) today held a virtual meeting with representatives of Transnet Group to discuss areas of concern with more Transnet employees reporting for work under the COVID-19 Level 4 Lockdown Regulations.

DISCIPLINARY HEARINGS OF TRANSNET EMPLOYEES

Transnet Group is busy drafting guidelines for conducting disciplinary hearings during the lockdown. These guidelines will be submitted to the leadership of UNTU for consideration. UNTU will provide feedback as soon as it is finalised.

MANDATORY CLOTH FACIAL MASK

According to the Regulations issued by Government for all employees operating under Level 4, all employees are compelled to wear facial masks as part of the required personal protective equipment (PPE’s).

Transnet had to issue all employees with two (2) cloth facial masks. These masks are washable. Employees are not allowed to resume their duties if they have not been issued with facial masks. The normal safety precautions like social distancing, hand sanitising and regularly washing of hands is still applicable.

THERMAL SCREENING

The Regulations issued for Level 4 requires that thermal screening of employees be mandatory. UNTU received reports from employees who have refused to subject themselves to the screening.

Please co-operate in this regard to ensure that all the required precautionary measures are taken to keep employees safe at work.

The Leadership of UNTU will meet again on 7 May 2020 at 14:30.

UNTU appeal to all our members to continue co-operating with Government’s Lockdown Regulations to combat the spreading of the COVID-19 virus.

Globally more than 3,5 million people have been infected and the lives of almost 250 000 people have been claimed.

Esteemed greetings,

SA HARRIS

GENERAL SECRETARY
