REMEMBER WHY WE CELEBRATE HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

REMEMBER WHY WE CELEBRATE HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

.

Human Rights Day is a national day that is commemorated annually on 21 March to remind South Africans about the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for the attainment of democracy in South Africa.

Human Rights Day in South Africa is linked with 21 March 1960, and the events of Sharpeville.

On that day 69 people died and 180 were wounded when Police fired on a peaceful crowd that had gathered to protest against the Pass laws.

This year we commemorate Human Rights Month under the theme:  “The year of unity, socioeconomic renewal and nation-building.”

#UNTU members with the outbreak of #COVID-19 we are faced with a national disaster. Let’s unite, co-operate with Government’s regulations and guidelines and support each other.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said: “Never before in the history of our democracy has our country been confronted with such a severe situation.”

THIS TOO SHALL PASS.

UNTU greetings,

HF Fourie

PRESIDENT
