Our circular letter, REF: UN.TRANS.221, dated, 2020/03/24 refers.
UNTU Leadership engaged with Transnet Management today at Waterfall with regards to the above subject matter.
Management presented their views for the different categories that will form part of the lockdown which are as follows:
1. Essential Services in Operations as defined by ODs based on volumes to be moved
2. Support Services rendering critical support to Operations
3. Non-Essential Services will comply with the national lockdown directive
All employees that fall under the above-mentioned categories will receive full remuneration during the lockdown period.
Management are still in a process of finalizing their list of Essential Service Employees as well as the Support Service Employees as this must be presented to the Disaster Management Centre for approval by Government. Non-Essential Services will stay at home.
Labour raised serious concerns to Management, by which Management could not provide answers to. Management then caucused, after which Labour received a response.
Management are still awaiting approval of the final list from the Operating Division and once the list is finalised, it will be shared with Labour. A Command Centre will be established where employees can raise any concerns with regards to the lockdown. Management agreed that all transport for Essential Services and Support Services will be their sole responsibility.
Labour and Management agreed to a follow up meeting tomorrow morning at 10H00 to finalize unresolved matters raised by Labour. Members will be kept abreast of any new developments as soon as Labour and Management have finalized their engagement tomorrow.
We once again would like to thank all our loyal members for their patience during these crucial engagements.
