CATCH #UNTU ON ENCA CHANNEL 403 ON 28 APRIL 2020 AT 06:40

Members of the United National Transport Union (UNTU) are invited to watch Sonja Carstens, Deputy-General Secretary of the Union, talking about the charges of fraud, theft and contraventions of the Transnet Pension Fund Act the Union laid against the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) at the South African Police Service (SAPS).

This comes after Prasa admitted in writing that the state-owned enterprise deducted the pension fund contributions from the salaries of employees of Metrorail, a division of Prasa, for February 2020 and March 2020 but did not transfer it to the Funds within seven days at the end calendar month as the Act stipulates.

To date more than R23 million in pension funds contributions is unlawfully being withheld by Prasa because of its cashflow problems. On Sunday, 26 April 2020, Prasa assured the Sunday newspaper City Press that it was not bankrupt.

The live television interview will be broadcast on Tuesday 28 April at 06:40 on channel 403.

Issued on behalf of UNTU by Sonja Carstens, Deputy-General Secretary: Media, Liaison and Communication.
