The United National Transport Union (UNTU) and the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) joined forces today at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) against the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) blatant disregard of a collective agreement.

UNTU earlier referred 19 points in dispute to the CCMA because the employer is not implementing the terms agreed upon. SATAWU was sighted by the CCMA as a party with an interest in the resolution of the dispute.

Today PRASA gave verbal feedback before Senior Commissioner Yusaf Nagdee about the companies alleged compliance with the agreement.

Mr. Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU, refused to accept this saying that the relationship between PRASA and Organised Labour is at its lowest. The Unions could not be expected to accept anything that the employer is not prepared to put in writing. The negotiation team of SATAWU agreed.

Nagdee proposed that the conciliation process be extended until 23 September 2016. PRASA must provide its response to the disputes in writing to the Unions by tomorrow midday.

For enquiries phone Mr. Harris on 082 566 5516.
