According to the December 2015 employee figures SATAWU has dropped below the minimum required threshold of 30 % membership at Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), to 29.27%, resulting in that they are no longer represented and recognized at TFR. However, all recognized Unions are permitted 90 days to remedy such a situation.
To this end members and representatives are requested to be vigilant and very aware that they must guard against any attacks, rumours or efforts to be influenced to move away from UNTU to join SATAWU or any other Union, but rather to encourage all employees in TFR to join UNTU and be part of a very stable and progressive Union.
