The United National Transport Union (UNTU) is grateful that Tom Cook and Tumi Makunyane, the train drivers that were involved when two Metrorail trains collided at Kaalfontein near Thembisa, are recovering quite well.
Tom is back at work after a preliminary investigation regarding the cause of the accident. A passenger died and about 200 passengers were injured in the collision. He is currently receiving trauma counselling after he managed to jump out of the train in time and had to watch the two trains colliding.
Tumi is still in hospital recovering after she underwent surgery to her knee yesterday. She is responding well to treatment. UNTU wishes her a speedy recovery.
