UPDATE ON ENQUIRIES ON FORCED LEAVE

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) continues to be flooded with enquiries from UNTU members who believe they were affected by the December 2015/2016 Forced Leave Issue.

One of the main complaints is that of members, who have proof that they have made submissions prior to 17 April 2017, but have not received official communication from the Employer on the outcome of their submissions to the Joint Task Team.

Those UNTU members who for whatever reason did not adhere to the cut-off date for submissions to the Joint Task Team of 17 April 2017 as set out and determined by the Labour Court, have “forfeit the right to do so.” The Labour Court did not give a blanket order for the Employer to compensate all affected Employees but stipulated the process that had to be followed.

All the applicants, irrespective if their appeals are successful or not, will only receive communication from Transnet after the appeal process has been audited. Unfortunately, this is a very time-consuming exercise.

UNTU will keep our members updated on the progress of the review of the appeals.
