UNTU OFFICES TO CLOSE, BUT MEMBERS WILL BE ASSISTED

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) will adhere to the instruction given by President Cyril Ramaphosa and will lockdown its offices nationwide for 21 days but will continue to assist members 24/7.

Hendrik Fourie, President of UNTU, says the Union finds itself in unfamiliar waters where it is forced to close its offices while some of the Union’s members might be considered part of the essential services that will need to continue working during this time.

“At this stage the management teams of the various state-owned enterprises (SOE’s) are sorting out the final arrangements. The UNTU Executive Council decided today that all our offices will remain closed during the lockdown, but our Deputy-General Secretaries and the Executive Council itself will be available 24/7 to assist members,” says Fourie.

UNTU members can contact any of the Secretariat on the following numbers:

UNTU will continue sending out information to our members in circular letters during this time and our social media pages will be updated daily.

Members can also send their questions and concerns to enquiries@untu.co.za where they will be responded to.

“It is very unfortunate that the Union and its members finds themselves in this situation where Government had to take drastic measures for the first time in our democratic history to combat the spreading of the COVID-19 virus, a global pandemic that has to date infected 554 people.

“UNTU calls on all its members and staff to co-operate with the strict requirements of the lockdown, to do everything within your means to stay healthy and to encourage your loved ones to do the same.

Together we are strong, and we can beat this deadly disease.

“Thank you all for your collective participation. GOD SPEED ,” says Fourie.
